What is candidiasis?

Candidiasis, also called thrush, oidiomicosis or thrush, is an infection caused by Candida yeasts being the most common fungal infection Candida albicans.

Candidiasis including skin infections and mucous membranes being frequent oral thrush and vaginitis caused by Candida. In some cases can cause serious systemic infections called candidemia that can lead to death, although the most severe cases occur in people with weakened immune system as in people with AIDS, cancer or transplanted people.

What are the symptoms of Candida infection?

In vaginitis or infection of the vulva the most frequent signs are irritation, redness, pain, itching and commonly present a whitish discharge with lumpy like cottage cheese consistency, often with a curd-like appearance. In men the clearest symptoms are the appearance of red spots on the glans and the foreskin may be accompanied by itching and burning sensation. Sometimes you can find a similar whitish discharge which occurs in vaginitis.
