Our CEO and partner Dr. Miguel Angel Llamas attended one more year the meeting of the working group coordinated by the Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain (COSCE), the meeting took place at the headquarters of the Official College of Veterinarians of Madrid (COVELMA ) and was accompanied by a press conference where the main results of the Second Annual Survey of the 140 Institutions adhered to this agreement were presented due to the transparency in the use of animals with scientific experimentation.
Meeting held at the headquarters of the Official College of Veterinarians of Madrid (COVELMA) on September 19, 2019. From the Right Mª Teresa Rodrigo (SECAL President), Miguel Angel Llamas (CEO Empireo SL), Margarita del Val (Vocal COSCE) , Javier Guillén (Director of AAALAC and Representative of EARA), Mª Rosario Moyano (Dean F. Veterinaria U. of Córdoba), Lluis Montoliu (Researcher CNB, CSIC, CIBERER-ISCIII), Sergi Vila Bellmunt (University of Barcelona, EARA) .
A total of 17 media attended and gave great coverage due to the data presented. We analyze the data of the Ministry on the number of animals of Experimentation used in Spain, this information is public but difficult to find for any citizen and this work group has as main objective “to graph” and to spread this data. Why “graph” and not analyze? It is not our goal to analyze and therefore subjectify existing data, our work is limited to putting that data in an easy to understand graph and disseminating that data.
Behind this initiative are already more than 140 institutions that meet the 4 commitments included in this agreement:
1.- Speak clearly about when, how and why animals are used in research.
2.- Provide adequate information to the media and the general public about the conditions under which research is required that requires the use of animal models and the results obtained from it.
3.- Promote initiatives that generate greater knowledge and understanding in society about the use of animals in scientific research.
4.- Report annually on progress and share experiences.
